Men's Mentoring

 WHAT IS IT?

Mentoring is a process much like coaching.  A mentor works with several men at the same time to help them grow toward spiritual maturity under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

The philosophy behind mentoring arises from Ephesians 4:11-13, where spiritual leaders are instructed to equip the rest of the church for the work of ministry.

[Christ] gave some to be …pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

                                        Ephesians 4:11-13 (NIV)

Over the last few years, hundreds of men at Hauser Community Church have invested time and energy developing spiritual disciplines.  We use the Bible and a handbook called, The Disciplines of A Godly Man by R. Kent Hughes.

This 28-week process examines and then applies biblical teaching in the following areas:

1.                 Godliness

2.                 Moral Purity

3.                 Marriage

4.                 Fatherhood

5.                 Friendship with other men

6.                 Disciplined mind

7.                 Devotion to God

8.                 Prayer

9.                 Worship

10.             Integrity

11.             Controlling our tongue

12.             Work

13.             Church

14.             Leadership

15.             Giving

16.             Being a witness

17.             Ministry

18.             Balancing grace and discipline

Each man sets personal goals for each discipline and makes their own plans to accomplish those goals.  He budgets time, resources, materials, and schedules time to practice each discipline.  At the weekly meetings, each man shares his goals and plans.

MENTORING PLAN

1.     Our vision is to train and equip mature men in the Hauser Community Church to be mentors so we can provide mentoring for every man in the church 17 years old and up.

2.     We desire to help each man grow and develop into his full God given potential.

3.     We aim to help each man until he in turn is mentoring others.

OUR STRATEGY

1.     To meet weekly as a group for about 90 minutes for a 28 week period.

2.     Each meeting involves discussion and application of the material we have read as it relates to that weeks discipline.

3.     Following each meeting each man will determine a personal application for his own life.

4.     Bible verses will be memorized during the 28 weeks that apply to the specific spiritual disciplines.

5.     We take time each week to pray for each other and our specific needs
